My dream to start a coffee company began in Portland OR in 2016. At that time I started to learn roasting from a collective and attended various industry events and classes in the area.
A few years later, we relocated back to San Diego. I decided then that it was time to finally launch a coffee company.
The name is inspired by our son who called out "Big Step!" during our walks whenever we hit a large crack, the name is meant to capture that adventurous spirit. Taking a leap of faith into the unknown.
Big Step Coffee’s mission is simple: source and roast great coffee and share it with like-minded people.
I invite you on this journey to drink great coffee and inspire you to find your own “Big Step.”

Where is the coffee roasted?
The coffee is roasted at the California Roasting Collective in San Marcos. The primary roaster I use is a San Franciscan.
Where do source the coffee?
I purchase the coffee through various import partners (Genuine Origin, Hacea Coffee, and Cafe Imports). These importers share my focus on sustainability, fair prices, and quality.
Do you offer an espresso roast?
Given the small scale I don't have the ability to roast to different profiles. However most of my coffees are roasted to a Medium or Light Medium. I have found that most of the coffees that are available are suitable for both drip and espresso.
Will you offer decaf?
This segment has been making large strides these past couple years and I am looking into making this a potential offering in the future.
