My path to launching a coffee company started in Portland, OR, back in 2016. It was there that I started learning the craft of roasting at a local collective, while immersing myself in industry events and classes.
A few years later, we made the move back to San Diego, and it became clear: it was time to turn my dream into reality.
The name Big Step Coffee is inspired by my son, who would excitedly shout “Big Step!” whenever we encountered a large crack on our walks. For me, the name represents that same spirit of adventure and fearlessness—taking a leap of faith into the unknown.
At Big Step Coffee, our mission is simple: to source and roast exceptional coffee and share it with a community of like-minded coffee lovers.

WHERE IS THE COFFEE ROASTED?
I roast at the California Roasting Collective located in San Marcos, CA. Depending on the coffee or the production requirements, I roast on a San Franciscan or Loring.
WHAT IS YOUR ROAST APPROACH OR STYLE?
Each coffee is different and I aim to optimize each coffee through a series of sample roasts. In general, my roasts are light to very light. I believe that is the best way to full appreciate the inherent characteristics of the coffee.
WHERE DO YOU SOURCE YOUR COFFEE?
I am very selective with the coffee that I roast and it starts with import partners who have deep and long-standing relationships with the producers. Each importer has a demonstrated track record of comitment to the local communities they source from.
