About Big Step Coffee

My path to launching a coffee company started in Portland, OR, back in 2016. It was there that I started learning the craft of roasting at a local collective, while immersing myself in industry events and classes.

A few years later, we made the move back to San Diego, and it became clear: it was time to turn my dream into reality.

The name Big Step Coffee is inspired by my son, who would excitedly shout “Big Step!” whenever we encountered a large crack on our walks. For me, the name represents that same spirit of adventure and fearlessness—taking a leap of faith into the unknown.

At Big Step Coffee, our mission is simple: to source and roast exceptional coffee and share it with a community of like-minded coffee lovers.

I invite you to join me on this journey—not just to enjoy great coffee, but to be inspired to find your own “Big Step.”

FAQs

Where is the coffee roasted?

Our coffee is roasted at the California Roasting Collective in San Marcos, where the primary roaster we use is a San Franciscan.

Where do you source your coffee?

I source my coffee through trusted import partners, including Genuine Origin, Hacea Coffee, and Cafe Imports. These importers share my commitment to sustainability, fair pricing, and exceptional quality.

Do you offer an espresso roast?

Due to the small scale of our operation, I don’t have the ability to roast to specific profiles. However, most of our coffees are roasted to a Medium or Light Medium profile, which works well for both drip and espresso brewing.

Will you offer decaf?

Decaf coffee has made great strides in recent years, and I am currently exploring this as a potential offering for the future. Stay tuned!
