How it all started

Big Step was started as a way to share my passion of great coffee with others.

The path I took to get here was not traditional, an outsider to the coffee industry but an obsessive that wanted to create something from scratch and build a coffee business that reflects my values. As one that is passionate about travel and the global community, coffee connects us in way that is unique and my goal is facilitate that connection.

The name Big Step Coffee is inspired by my son, who, when he was really young would excitedly shout “Big Step!” whenever we encountered a large crack on our walks. For me, the name represents that same spirit of adventure and fearlessness that led me to create this company.

No hype. No trends. Just exceptional coffee that is sourced ethically and roasted with careful intention to bring out the best qualities it has to offer.

HOW WE APPROACH COFFEE

Growing and producing high quality coffee takes tremendous skill, risk, and hard work. Specialty coffee is labor intensive and takes years of dedication and commitment.

At Big Step, we aim to honor the work and craft that has gone into each bean. Our goal with roasting is to highlight the intrinsic qualities of each coffee, showcasing the flavors that the producers at origin intended.

We source coffee through import partners that have deep and long-standing relationships with the producers and communities. It is important for us to look beyond the transactional and prioritize consistent purchases that provide financial stability to the small holder farmers and communities that rely on coffee to support their livelihoods
