Rudy Lopez Castillo grew up on a farm and over time joined in work on the different crops the family was growing. After inheriting a part of the land in 1996, he started with the cultivation of coffee. In the beginning it was challenging since he had few resources, but he just started planting a little at a time “and no doubt,” he says “the support of my wife and family was essential to get where we are today.”
His farm, named “La Joya” has consistently produced high quality coffee over the years, however, climate change has proved challenging. In order to adapt they have adopted improved processes at the farm, started to conduct soil analysis, and made harvest and post-harvest practices even better. These strategies are critical to improve quality and also create a healthy farm business for the future.
This coffee was purchased through our import partners at Primavera Green Coffee, who have deep connections and roots in Guatemala.
