This month’s coffee comes from the estate of Hacienda Sonora in Costa Rica.
The farm is located in Alajuela province on the northwest outskirts San José. The estate has been in the family of Alberto and Diego Guardia for more than a century. Alberto took over the farm in the 70’s and began planting coffee, which became the primary source of income. In 1999, when prices of coffee were at a historical low, Alberto invested in a mill to improve the quality of the coffee. As a result, they became a pioneer in unique processing methods such as Honey and Naturals. The farm has 20 different varieties of coffee, this particular variety (San Isidro 48) is unique to this region.
